What Every Parent Needs to Know...

A friend visited me with her newborn baby girl last week and asked me: What are the key things you want every new parent to know?

As I listened to my responses, I thought: Hey, these would be great for the blog! And so here's 'part one' of my response...I'll add the others over the next few weeks. Please let me know what you think!

What I think every parent needs to know:

Your child is already whole and perfect. (So you can check that off your 'to do list'.) Really. Your job is not to 'train' or inculcate your child with your life wisdom so that s/he will become successful. Your main job was to assist with the life bringing of your child. (check)

Your next job is to assist with feeding, clothing, sheltering, and protecting your child from the elements, and to listen for clear requests.

Your child is already whole and perfect. The big work is done. So relax and enjoy the unfolding of your child's genius. Look for all the miracles and gifts in your child. Celebrate them.

This is the easy path in parenting. I've used it for 6 years now with great success. When you listen consciously, your child will tell you everything you need to know to support her or him to grow into her/his full potential.
